Policy Title: Board of Directors’ Elections
Citizens of the school district community seeking a seat on the board must file their nomination papers with the board secretary, or the board secretary’s designee, consistent with the deadlines provided in Iowa law.
If a vacancy occurs on the board it may be filled by appointment within thirty days of the vacancy. If the board does not fill the vacancy by appointment, the board secretary shall call a special election to fill the vacancy. Candidates for a seat created by a vacancy must file their nomination papers with the board secretary consistent with the deadlines provided in Iowa law.
It shall be the responsibility of the county commissioner of elections to conduct school elections.
- The membership of the Board of Education shall consist of five elected non-district directors whose term in office shall be for a period of four years. These directors shall be elected at the regular school election held on the second Tuesday in September in each odd-number year.
The following boundaries shall be established for the above identified directors:
1a. Members are at Large – The entire area of said school district included in Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, and Winneshiek Counties, Iowa
- If a director moves out of the Postville School District, a vacancy exists and shall be filled by appointment by the remainder of the Board at any legal meeting thereof until such vacancy can be filled at the next regular election. Elections to fill vacancies shall be for the unexpired term.
- If a vacancy occurs on the Board of Education by resignation or any means other than moving, the remainder of the board at any legal meeting thereof will fill such vacancy by appointment until the vacancy can be filled at the next regular election.
- That the above redistricting is in compliance with the guidelines established by the Secretary of State, State of Iowa, and is within the allowed variation from the ideal population of 10 percent.
