Code No. 701.4 Free or Reduced Cost Meals Eligibility
Code No. 701.4
Policy Title: Free or Reduced Cost Meals Eligibility
Students enrolled and attending school in the school district, who are unable to afford the cost or a portion of the cost of the school lunch and breakfast, will be provided the school food program services at no cost or at a reduced cost.
It shall be the responsibility of the building principal to determine if a student qualifies for free or reduced cost school food services. Students, whom the principal believes are improperly nourished, will not be denied the school food program services simply because the paperwork has not been completed.
Employees, students, and other will be required to purchase tickets for meals consumed. Any student accumulating a debt of $5.00 or more will receive an alternative meal. School personnel shall not carry a debt for more than one working day. All debts must be paid up by the last day of school.
It shall be the responsibility of the superintendent to develop administrative regulations for implementing this policy.
The school district will make every effort to eliminate any social stigma attached to, and prevent the overt identification of students, who are eligible for free and reduced-price meals.
