
Scott Zierath graduated from Platteville High School (Wisconsin) in 1985. He graduated from Luther College with a degree in English and Speech/Theater in 1989. After spending a semester working in a canning factory to make money, he returned to Luther and earned his secondary education certification. He substitute taught for three years in the Twin Cities area, and then spent three years at Remsen-St. Mary’s in Remsen, Iowa. The following fifteen were spent at Luther College with the Luther College Upward Bound program, working with first-generation-to-college, low-to-middle-income students from many Northeastern Iowan schools He joined the Postville teaching staff in 2012 and taught 7th and 8th grade Language Arts until 2021. During the 2021-2022 school year, Scott taught 8th grade English. In 2022, Scott moved on with the 8th graders to high school, where he teaches English 1, English 3, and Mass Media. Scott is married to Kath Zierath, and they live in Decorah. The family include six cats – Cleo, Nyx, Artemis, Autumn, Sox, and Eclipse. In addition to teaching, Scott works at Decorah’s Walmart in the Electronics and Photo Lab Department, and, in his spare time, he writes fantasy and mystery novels, reads, and plays many different games – card, board, table-top role-playing, and video.
