ISASP: IOWA STATEWIDE ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT PROGRESS
Formally known as IA Assessments, ISASP is our new statewide assessment tool. All of our 3rd - 11th grade students will be assessed online in the areas of Reading, Math, and Language Arts / Writing. Students in grades 5, 8, 10 will also be assessed in Science. Elementary assessments will start the week of April 8th.
PEPTO: PLAYGROUND PROJECT
As many of you are aware, our elementary has started a new organization titled PEPTO (Postville Elementary Parent Teacher Organization). The main objective of this organization is for the elementary to partner with parents on improving the education of our students. The first main campaign is to raise funds in order to replace our 27 year old playground. The PEPTO organization has been applying for grants and planning fundraising events. At recent basketball games, a 50/50 raffle has taken place. On February 14th there will be a Father / Daughter Dance at the YMCA with all proceeds going towards the playground project. In March they are planning a Mother / Son bowling tournament. If you are interested in donating, you can either send money to the school or drop off at either bank in town. Make sure you indicate that the money is intended for the playground project. Also, if you would be interested in joining PEPTO, all are welcome at the meetings with reminders on the school Facebook page.

PPEL Vote (PHYSICAL PLANT AND EQUIPMENT LEVY)
This vote was supposed to take place on February 5th but due to a clerical error, the vote will take place in April. This provides us more opportunities to educate the voters of the Postville district what these funds are used for. First of all, this vote is for a renewal of the already existing PPEL. It is NOT a new tax but a continuation of the current rate. PPEL money can be used for computers, SmartPanel TVs, wireless infrastructure, buses, vans, suburbans, facility improvements including roof repairs and maintenance, windows, lights, flooring, classroom furniture & PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT. All residents of the Postville District are allowed to vote. This vote only needs a simple majority to pass. Please spread the word about the upcoming vote and what those funds can be used for.
Visit from Abe Lincoln
On February 27 from 4:00 - 5:30 in the FAC Auditorium we will be having a special visitor hosted by the Postville Public Library. Kevin Wood will be presenting a Portrayal of President Abraham Lincoln. His presentation will center around the twelve turbulent years from 1854 - 1865, when the slavery issue came to a head and nearly broke the country apart. This presentation is for adults and children age 6 and older.
